First Flower Printing Project (January 2011)

These vibrant printed flower paintings really brightened up a dull January afternoon!

This was a group of 3 and 4 year olds, so I wanted a simple but fun project to introduce them to printing. I cut washing-up sponges into petal shapes and also gave them wine bottle corks, which are great for printing spots.

The kids started by practising their scissor skills, cutting a wiggly shape from a piece of paper folded in half to create a symmetrical vase.  They enjoyed the surprise of opening up the paper to discover how their vase turned out.

After using oil pastels to draw a few flower stems, they got messy with the paint, sponges and corks!
